Malawi CERT Hosts a COP Trainer of Trainers Workshop for teachers in the South West and Shire Highlands Education Divisions

MACRA, through MwCERT, has hosted a Child Online Protection trainer-of-trainers workshop in Blantyre targeting teachers from South West and Shire Highlands Education Divisions.

Christopher Banda, Head of CERT, noted teachers’ crucial role in protecting children online. He observed that today’s youth are highly familiar with online platforms, making them vulnerable to cyberbullying and online crimes. Banda stressed that teachers can instill essential cybersecurity skills in children, and collaboration with parents would enhance this effort.

Human rights expert Boniface Mandele encouraged schools to establish guidelines for children’s online well-being. Sister Evarista Kapwata, Headmistress of Stella Marris Girls Secondary School, praised the initiative, noting it would pave the way for a safer online environment for students.

The workshop aimed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills to safeguard children online, promoting a collaborative approach between educators, parents, and the community.
