Data Protection Authority Engages Government Institutions In a Data Protection Awareness Drive

 

MACRA through the Data Protection Authority (DPA) has engaged Government Institutions in a Data Protection Awareness drive to enhance data privacy and security in Malawi’s public sector.

During the meeting in Lilongwe, MACRA Board Director Mr Isaac Songea, stressed the importance of safeguarding personal data in today’s digital era: “Personal data is one of the most valuable assets in the digital age, and this workshop arrives at a critical time.”

Mr Mark Chonde, a participant from Reserve Bank of Malawi’s has commended the initiative, urging all institutions to ensure personal data they collect is well protected and used responsibly. 
 
The Data Protection Act positions MACRA as the Data Protection Authority, charged with regulating, monitoring, and enforcing compliance of how personal data is collected, processed, stored, and shared across sectors.
