The Malawi Computer Emergency Response Team (mwCERT) hosted a cyber drill for the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS).The drill forms part of mwCERT’s efforts to raise awareness on cybersecurity and provide a platform to strengthen students’ capacity in the field.
Speaking during the event, Dr Patrick Chikumba, Head of Computer Science and Information Systems at MUBAS, highlighted new developments at the university, including the introduction of a degree programme in Cybersecurity.
In response, the Head of mwCERT, Mr Christopher Banda, welcomed the development, noting that despite the growing demand for skilled cybersecurity experts, Malawi has not been offering specialised courses in the field.
The cyber drill, which was presided over by a cybersecurity awareness session, covered issues such as cyber hygiene, data protection, and the Muuni Fund.
